What’s happening at United this week?

The next seven days will see a host of anniversaries and key dates, as Erik ten Hag’s side put in the final preparations for the opening weekend of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The Reds face Brighton on Sunday at Old Trafford, and ahead of the fixture, the boss will conduct his first Carrington pre-match press conference and put his side through their paces for the final time before the curtain is raised on the new campaign.

So, as the countdown continues to our league opener, here’s your breakdown of what’s happening at United this week…

MONDAY

Former United midfielder Nemanja Matic celebrates his 34th birthday today. Happy birthday, Nemanja!

On this day in 2018, our women's team's social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter all launched. Now, four years on, our Twitter is home to more than 300,000 followers and continues to grow. The Euro 2022 success of United Women trio Mary Earps, Ella Toone and Alessia Russo was catalogued on our social channels on Sunday, and will be there for future generations to take in and be inspired.

Former Red Sammy McIlroy celebrates his 68th birthday on Tuesday, and we would like to wish you a very happy birthday, Sammy!

WEDNESDAY

On this day in 1997, former Reds’ striker Teddy Sheringham made his debut.

THURSDAY

Thursday will see us celebrate two birthdays as former United players Antonio Valencia and Mollie Green were both born on 4 August.

Valencia will turn 37 on Thursday, while Green will turn 25. Happy birthday to you both!

FRIDAY

On Friday, Ten Hag will conduct his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. You can tune in to the briefing LIVE in the United App, on ManUtd.com and MUTV.

There are a host of key anniversaries on Friday, as 5 August marks the date that our captain Harry Maguire signed for the club in 2019, and former winger Nani made his debut in 2007. Marcus Rashford was also given the fabled no.10 shirt on 5 August 2018.

Young defender Ethan Laird will also turn 21 on Friday, and we wish Ethan a very happy birthday.

The 2022/23 Premier League season officially starts too, with Arsenal travelling to Crystal Palace for the first fixture of the new campaign at 20:00 BST.

SATURDAY

Further Premier League fixtures will be played on Saturday, as the opening weekend gets into full swing. Keep an eye out for key results from our rivals.

On this day in 1991, Peter Schmeichel signed for United. What a signing that was!

We will also wish former Reds striker Robin van Persie many happy returns on Saturday, as the Dutchman celebrates his birthday.

SUNDAY

The Reds face Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday, as our Premier League campaign commences. The match is set to begin at 14:00 BST and you can tune in for live pre-match coverage on MUTV an hour before kick-off.

The match is being shown live on Sky Sports, with their coverage beginning an hour before kick-off too. Stay tuned to the United App for pre-match build-up and post-match reaction, as well as in-game data, exclusive interviews, and much more.

Sunday also marks the date at which a number of Reds, past and present, made their debut for the club. Ashley Young (2011), David De Gea (2011), Eric Bailly (2016), Phil Jones (2011), Roy Keane (1993) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2016) all made their United bows on this date.
