What's happening at United this week?

Monday 22 February 2021 13:26

Manchester United face another week with two matches, as we welcome Real Sociedad to Old Trafford in the Europa League, before the weekend trip to face in-form Chelsea.

Also, in the mix over the next seven days are matches for our youth sides, as well as several anniversaries and some particularly special birthdays.

Here’s everything you need to keep an eye out for United this week…

MONDAY

We’ll kick off the week by reflecting on our 3-1 home victory against Newcastle United, where goals from Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes wrapped up all three points on a night when Shola Shoretire made his senior debut.

Check out ManUtd.com and our Official App for interviews, features, highlights, a quiz and much more on the win over the Magpies.

Later than night, our Under-23s are in action when we face Everton’s underage side. The Reds will be hoping for a repeat of our 2-1 victory over the Toffees back in October and the match, which you can watch live on MUTV, will get underway at 19:00 GMT.

Everyone at Manchester United would like to wish Sergio Romero a very happy birthday, as the goalkeeper turns 34 on Monday.

Elsewhere, the latest UTD Podcast episode is available from 17:00 GMT, with this week’s episode featuring United great Clayton Blackmore.

TUESDAY

With attention turning to the Europa League return leg against Real Sociedad on Thursday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be readying the squad at the Aon Training Complex.

The Reds hold a 4-0 lead from the away leg last week, but the boss will be taking nothing for granted against a quality opposition, and we expect him to be working on a detailed tactical plan ahead of the clash.

WEDNESDAY

Ole will face the media ahead of the Real Sociedad return leg. You can keep track of everything the United boss says via MUTV, ManUtd.com and on the Official App. He may even give an update on the latest team news, with Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani all doubts ahead of the game.

This day marks a very special birthday as Manchester United legend Denis Law, who won the European Cup with the Reds in 1968, turns 81 years old. Everyone at Manchester United hopes you have a fantastic day, Denis!
THURSDAY

The Reds return to Europa League when La Reales travel to the Theatre of Dreams for a 20:00 GMT kick-off. The game should see former Red Adnan Januzaj enjoy a trip back to his former stomping ground, and the winners will qualify for the last-16 draw.

Speaking of European nights at Old Trafford, this day also marks the anniversary of Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United debut, when the striker introduced himself to the world by scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.

FRIDAY

The draw for the Europa League last-16 takes place and hopefully, should include United. Other British sides Arsenal, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspurs and Rangers could also be involved.

Despite that, the attention will quickly shift back to Premier League action as we bring you Ole’s second press conference of the week, ahead of the weekend encounter with Chelsea.

It’s also a special day for the United boss, as he celebrates his 48th birthday. Many happy returns, Ole!

SATURDAY

We start the weekend off with a double header of youth-team fixtures, as the Under-18s, who are top of the league, have a home clash against seventh-placed Derby County. Kick-off is at 12:00 GMT and it will be shown live on MUTV.

At 14:00 GMT, the Under-23s are in action for the second time this week and we make the trip to Southampton.

SUNDAY

We round off the week with a huge fixture as United face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. Ole has never lost away to the Blues as boss of United and could deliver a big blow to the Londoners’ hopes of a top-four finish. Kick-off for this highly anticipated contest is at 16:30 GMT.
