The nominees for the 2022 NorthWest Football Awards have been announced, with three Manchester United players competing for prizes in their respective categories.

The event is due to be held on 7 November at Emirates Old Trafford, the cricket ground, and recognises the talent across the region, with representations from a number of clubs.

For instance, there are five players up for the Premier League Player of the Season trophy, one from each local team in the top flight last term.

Alejandro Garnacho is in contention in the Rising Star category.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the United man but faces competition from Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, Everton keeper Jordan Pickford and Josh Brownhill, a former Reds schoolboy, from Burnley, who have since been relegated, of course.

Egypt international Salah is the current holder in the category, beating the likes of Luke Shaw and Ruben Dias to the 2021 prize.

There is also a Rising Star award, sponsored by The Athletic, with 20 youngsters in contention from across the divisions.

Exciting winger Alejandro Garnacho is likely to prove popular in the voting but Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, Everton's Anthony Gordon and Manchester City prospect James McAtee, who is now on loan with Sheffield United, will surely provide strong competition.

There are other former United Academy members on the shortlist - Burnley's Owen Dodgson and Lee O'Connor of Tranmere Rovers.

Ella Toone at Old Trafford following her exploits with England in the European Championship.

United Women's attacker Ella Toone has been nominated for two trophies, following her exploits for club and country.

The England international is one of seven names competing for the Women's Player of the Season, alongside Natasha Fenton (Blackburn), Evie Priestley (Burnley), Gabby George (Everton), Leanne Kiernan (Liverpool), ex-Red Alex Greenwood (Manchester City) and Emily Hutton (Salford City).

Toone is also our representative in the Women's Rising Star section, with Kiernan, Manchester City's Lauren Hemp and Everton's Hanna Bennison among the other candidates.

You can cast your vote here and best of luck to the three Reds competing for the prizes.
