Binnion reacts to Wrexham defeat

The 36-year-old, who oversaw proceedings for United at Snapdragon Stadium - with Erik ten Hag also in the dugout - chose a youthful side to face the Red Dragons.

Goals from Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden and Sam Dalby saw Wrexham prevail in San Diego, with Marc Jurado netting the Reds only goal of the game just before the interval.

Speaking to MUTV post-match, Binnion was keen to emphasise that there are plenty of lessons to learn from his side's battling display overall.

''It was an eventful night, wasn't it? Obviously a couple of key decisions didn't really go our way, but we didn't play well enough,'' he began speaking to the MUTV cameras.

''First half we had control of the game. Or we could have had to control the game, but we didn't quite do enough for the ball.

''[The] structure wasn't right and some of my decision making wasn't great and then obviously the two goals we conceded are quite avoidable. So there's a lot of learning for us tonight.''

Having played in front of 34,428 people in the States - a record for the ground, which was opened last year - United's younger players can draw from what will serve as a strong learning curve, while still being in the infancy of their professional careers.

Binnion echoed the very same sentiment, insisting games of this sort of magnitude don't come round all that often.

''We don't get many of those, so it's a brilliant learning experience,'' added our Under-21s coach.

''It's an environment they want to play in and throughout their careers and yet they've [already] had some experiences.

''Obviously the FA Youth Cup final, [some of] the boys have played in the Championship, Murrayfield last week against Lyon.

''The boys that played in that they're getting a catalogue of good experiences. But ultimately, we need to be better than what we were tonight.''

With plenty of action set to come in terms of Premier League 2, EFL Trophy and even the UEFA Youth League, Binnion insisted getting out on the grass on Tour 2023 will serve them in good stead moving forward.

''The lads needed a game. Some of the lads, it's their first game tonight so they need to play,'' he said.

''There's no better environment than this. We've had a good trip and It's been a good learning curve.

''So yeah, the more experiences they can get like this, the better for their development.''
