Malacia reveals which Red he admired

New Manchester United signing Tyrell Malacia admits he would love to emulate former Reds full-back Patrice Evra, a player he really admired.

Like the Frenchman, Malacia is an attacking left-back who is capable of getting up and down the flank, while providing plenty of energy and enthusiasm.

Evra joined from Monaco in early 2006 and went on to make 379 appearances for the club, remaining a popular figure long after his departure, for Juventus, in 2014. The bubbly character won five Premier League winner's medals, in addition to both the Champions League and FIFA World Club Cup in 2008.

Tyrell Malacia speaks about two former Reds who inspired him, his style of play, Old Trafford dreams and more...

When asked by MUTV’s Stewart Gardner if there were any United players he looked up to, when growing up, our summer signing declared: “Yes, Patrice Evra. I love his style. Everything is fast, energetic, everything.”

After being quizzed on whether he is inspired by what Evra achieved at Old Trafford, Malacia replied: “Yeah, of course. I want to do even better. I know it’s going to be difficult but I set the bar high for myself. It’s what I want.”

Certainly, the left-back feels he can bring the same sort of exciting attacking play that became one of Evra’s strengths.

“As a footballer, I am strong in defence,” he said. “I love to attack. Yeah, I have good drive and never give up.

“I spoke with the coach [Erik ten Hag] and he gave me some things I have to work on but he says it will come with time.”
