Fans to be gifted bucket hats and flags at Wembley

Thursday 01 June 2023 16:00

Manchester United fans attending the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday will each be gifted a limited-edition bucket hat and hand waver flag.

The aim is to create a red-and-white wall of support to back United in the pursuit of a second trophy this season.

The hats and flags follow on from the success of the red-and-white scarves that were placed on every seat of the thousands of fans who cheered the team to victory in February's Carabao Cup final.

The flags, made from recycled plastic bottles, will bring a vibrancy to the United end as we aim for a 13th FA Cup success in the club’s 21st appearance in the final. After the game, any flags not taken as souvenirs will be recycled.

Fans will find their bucket hats and flags on their seats* when they arrive in the stadium for the first all-Manchester final in the 151-year history of the world’s oldest cup competition.

Fans at the Carabao Cup final in February all received free United scarves.

Rick McGagh, Manchester United’s head of fan engagement, said: “After one of the busiest seasons in our history we wanted to reward fans with something they can use during the summer break.

“Our fans have been brilliant again this season and the role they play in inspiring the team has been so important during this long campaign. I know Erik ten Hag and the players really value and appreciate the dedication of everyone who supports our club and they are determined to win our second trophy this season by lifting the FA Cup for the 13th time.

“Hopefully the red, white and black bucket hats will provide a lasting souvenir of another great day - as the scarves did at Wembley in February. We hope all our fans making the trip to London, and all our supporters watching across the world, will have a great day on Saturday.”

*Please note that United supporters in Club Wembley will not receive the hat and flag because this is prohibited by Wembley's policy of not allowing club colours to be worn in that area.
