United in Numbers: Mbeumo's magic

Sunday 23 November 2025 10:00

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has enjoyed a dazzling start to life at Old Trafford.

Our no.19 admitted when he joined the Reds earlier this summer that hard work was the minimum requirement for being a player under Ruben Amorim.

It's safe to say the Cameroon international has already endeared himself to United supporters during the first three months of the season, as he leads the way in terms of our goalscoring exploits.

But there is much more to Bryan's fine form when it comes to finding the back of the net, especially his reliability and, additionally, his diligent off-the-ball running.

UNITED APPEARANCES SO FAR THIS SEASON

12: Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Matthijs de Ligt

11: Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha, Amad, Leny Yoro

10: Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Diogo Dalot

According to stats provided by Opta, the ex-Brentford man ranks highest in two facets that will, no doubt, have pleased everybody connected with the first team.

Bryan's off-ball running is the highest in the Premier League so far this term, making 169 of those in behind defences, more than any other player in the division to this point.

Ollie Watkins (146), Viktor Gyokeres (120) and Mohamed Salah (114) come pretty close, but it is Mbeumo leading the way, evidenced by the amount of opportunities that are falling his way.

October's Player of the Month was in red-hot form and his display against Brighton & Hove Albion, during our 4-2 win at M16, had all the elements of what we are now coming to expect from him.

Also, nobody has had more than Mbeumo's 105 off-ball runs into the attacking third in the Premier League.

Liverpool's Florian Wirtz and Arsenal attacker Gyokeres have logged the same number so far.

As showcased in our win over Sunderland, the 26-year-old combined brilliantly with Amad as their partnership began to flourish and has continued to do so ever since.

Against the Black Cats, Bryan played the final ball into Mason Mount, who completed a sweeping move that included 19 passes in the build-up.

No Premier League goal has involved more passes this season than Mason Mount's strike...

Nobody at United has scored more times this season than our no.19 with six, but the stats also point to his expected assists, as a way of highlighting his creativity.

Bryan also leads the way on that front in the Premier League in 2025/26, registering 2.54, ahead of Everton duo Jack Grealish (2.48) and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall (2.45), with the Merseyiders' pair due to appear at Old Trafford in our next fixture on Monday night.

The former Bees forward got nine in his final campaign at the Gtech Community Stadium, as well as 20 goals, proving, once again, it is his all-round attacking displays that are so crucial.

Only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has more goals from open play in the league this season (14), with Bryan totting up five of those so far for the Reds.

We may be set for some time without Mbeumo when the Africa Cup of Nations comes around but, rest assured, we feel his work under Amorim is only just getting started.

A brilliant start, backed up by strong underlying numbers, means his name will continue to be sung, and rightly so, by those who have backed him as a crucial part of our project.

'United in Numbers' is a statistics-based feature series on ManUtd.com and the United App, supported by the club's global partner TeamViewer. The stats included in this piece were collected before this weekend's Premier League matches.
