United in Numbers: 200 games for Ella Toone!
Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone is no stranger to a milestone number.
United Women’s no.7 scored the team’s landmark 500th goal in our win over Leicester last month and, having contributed towards a significant collective achievement on that occasion, has recently celebrated a special personal success.
Tooney became the first player in the seven-year history of our women’s team to reach 200 appearances for the club earlier this month, while helping the Reds register a statement win away to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Remarkably, the childhood Red has only missed 14 of the 214 competitive fixtures that our women’s team have played since reforming in 2018, and nearly half (six) of those non-involvements came during the spell that she was sidelined with a calf issue last season.
She hasn’t looked back since introducing herself as one of 14 debutants in the side’s post-reformation bow, a 1-0 win away to Liverpool in August 2018, and went on to feature in all 29 of our games during that inaugural 2018/19 term - a feat only matched by Millie Turner.
Ella's importance to the Reds' side showed up in the numbers then, and hasn't wavered since. She became the first to 100 United Women appearances when lining up against Brighton in April 2022, and 150 when turning out at home to Aston Villa in January 2024.
By season, the majority of her 200 United matches came in the 2023/24 campaign, when 33 Toone outings included a goalscoring showing in our FA Cup final victory over Spurs, as the team lifted its first major trophy. Our no.7 has played at least 24 games in six of her seven full seasons as a United Women star to date.

All The Angles: Toone's FA Cup final stunner
ALL THE ANGLES | We could watch Ella Toone's rocket from the Women's FA Cup final over and over and over again...
What about if we break Ella's 200 down by competition? Well, the lion's share of her United appearances have come in the league, 145 to be exact. That's all 20 of our fixtures in the Championship-winning term and 125 in the Barclays Women's Super League across the six-and-a-bit seasons since.
In fact, Tooney set a WSL record for the longest run of consecutive games played by an outfielder in the competition's history. Her streak of 96 was abruptly ended four shy of triple figures last year by the aforementioned calf injury.
The midfielder has fond memories in both domestic cup competitions, meanwhile. Her club debut against Liverpool was the first of 26 League Cup ties that she has played in, while her 21 FA Cup outings include that triumphant 2024 final, sandwiched between two less successful involvements in the Wembley showpiece.
Last Thursday's landmark game in the Champions League was her eighth on the European stage for United and, all being well, that tally will grow further over the coming months with the Reds in the competition's main phase for the first time this season. Four further fixtures are guaranteed at this stage, including November's Old Trafford showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.
TOONE'S APPEARANCES BY COMPETITION
WSL: 125
WSL2 (previously Championship): 20
League Cup: 26
FA Cup: 21
Champions League: 8
As an attacking player that thrives on being at the heart of the action, goals are of course a big part of Toone's game too. She's got 63 in her 200 appearances for United Women, making her the team's all-time top scorer and the only Red to have passed the 50 mark.
She netted her first for the club on appearance three - and league debut - away to Aston Villa in September 2018 and has since marked many a standout performance with a quality goal. Her FA Cup final screamer will be a favourite for many fans.
Bidding to make more memories this term, Tooney has two goals to her name in 2025/26 but nine direct involvements in total, having already notched seven assists.
It means only Elisabeth Terland (10) has been involved in more United Women strikes through the opening months of the campaign than Ella, who was most recently awarded the assist for Fridolina Rolfo's winner in Madrid.
Reflecting on her 200-game achievement with an Instagram post, our proud midfielder said: “200 appearances for this club. Little Ella never thought it would have been possible.
“Thank you for all your support over the last seven years and cheers to making more memories together.”
Cheers to that, Ella and congratulations on your latest milestone number as a Red!
