United Women to play Chelsea at Old Trafford

Thursday 21 December 2023 16:45

Manchester United’s final game of the 2023/24 Women’s Super League (WSL) season against Chelsea Women will be played at Old Trafford on 18 May 2024.

The switch to the Theatre of Dreams allows for another huge crowd to see United, currently placed fourth in the WSL, take on current leaders Chelsea for what is expected to be a high-stakes season finale featuring some of the world’s best players.

The rescheduling means the WSL match against Everton, that was provisionally agreed to be played at Old Trafford on March 31st, 2024, will now return to Leigh Sports Village (LSV) due to fixture congestion and the clash with the FA’s showpiece Continental Cup Final – a competition United are well placed to progress to the latter stages in.

The season’s curtain call will mark the sixth occasion that Manchester United Women have played at Old Trafford since the team’s inception in 2018 and follows a club record WSL attendance of 43,615 at the iconic stadium for the Manchester derby in November.

Tickets for the big game are on sale now.

The game will be a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final between United and Chelsea, which was watched by 77,390 fans at Wembley – a record for a women’s domestic football fixture in the UK. Attendances have also hit record levels for United’s WSL games at LSV, with season tickets selling out for the first time ever this campaign.

Polly Bancroft, Head of Women’s Football, said: “Playing at Old Trafford is always special for everyone connected with Manchester United Women.

“We are fully committed to driving the long-term growth of the team, and a key element of that is making Old Trafford a second home by consistently attracting large crowds and delivering a great experience for our fans.

“The appetite for women’s football couldn’t be more apparent and hosting this fixture against Chelsea at Old Trafford will be another great occasion for women’s football.”
