Lindelof: We're proud of our clean-sheet record

Wednesday 01 July 2020 07:00

Victor Lindelof was thrilled to help Manchester United keep another clean sheet, as the Reds beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 on Tuesday night.

While Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba and co caught the eye with some outstanding attacking play at the Amex Stadium, United were also superb defensively against the Seagulls.

By shutting out Graham Potter’s men, the Reds registered an impressive 11th clean sheet in our last 15 games in all competitions. In that time, we have only conceded four goals, a record that Victor is, unsurprisingly, very proud of.

Forwards get the credit after big wins, but our defenders also deserve praise! Victor is delighted by our solidity...

“We want to score a lot of goals and then of course we want to keep a clean sheet as well, so I’m very happy for that,” the centre-back told MUTV, after our 3-0 win on the south coast.

“As a defensive unit today, as well as a team, we defended very well. We had a lot of possession, then when we lost the ball we took it back quite quickly, so I’m very pleased with the performance today.”

While the back four shone yet again on Tuesday, goalkeeper David De Gea was forced into making two excellent saves in the second period.
Our no.1 reacted brilliantly to blistering efforts from Aaron Connolly, and then Neal Maupay, which helped preserve our three-goal advantage.

“It’s very important, you know, when we lose the ball and give them a few chances, it’s always important for David to be ready,” said Victor.

“Once again he showed what a great goalkeeper he is, so it’s always nice to have him behind us.”

"I rate this one highly - we were fantastic from the word go," beams Ole in our interview at the Amex Stadium...

That win ensured we’re now unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions, and Lindelof believes the Reds are playing with a huge amount of confidence at present.

“I think we show it every time we walk onto the pitch now, what a team we can be and what type of football we can play,” he said.

“Today we controlled the game throughout the 90 minutes. For a little bit in the second half they got a few chances, but other than that I think we controlled it perfectly and performed some really good football out there. So I’m very happy.

“We have some really good players up there [in attack],” he added. “I think once again they showed what they can do on the pitch and then when we keep the ball like that, they can control the game for us. So it’s quite nice to watch them play football.”
