Lindelof: Past wins at City give us confidence

Manchester United’s good record away at Manchester City is an important source of motivation going into this weekend’s derby match, says defender Victor Lindelof.

The Reds have won four of our last five matches against City at the Etihad Stadium in all competitions, and have lost only one of our previous seven trips across town.

Lindelof has played in the majority of those matches, and the Swedish centre-back is excited at the prospect of another competitive match in this Sunday’s 16:30 GMT kick-off.

“I think everyone is looking forward to that,” he said.

Wednesday’s session was action-packed, featuring some precise finishing, acrobatic saves and perfectly-timed tackles…

“It’s a massive game and you always want to play in the biggest games, so I think everyone is very, very excited for that game.

“Right now we’re just trying to prepare in the best way possible. Hopefully we can go out there and perform well. When it’s a derby, you always want to win and perform well.”

The Manchester Derby has certainly taken on a trend in recent times of supremacy for the visiting side, going against the norm. City triumphed at Old Trafford earlier this season, but Lindelof believes our good record at their place can provide confidence to the squad.

“We’ve done it before and we know we have the quality as a team to beat them,” he explained.

“Like I said, if we prepare well and we follow the game plan I think we have every possibility to get another three points against them away. It’s going to be a tough game, but hopefully, we can do that.”
