Lindelof: Maguire performed at high level
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has spoken highly of his partnership with fellow centre-back, Harry Maguire, following the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth.
Maguire and Lindelof both made their first starts for United since the resumption of domestic football, keeping a clean sheet in the win, which saw the Reds move up to equal points with third-placed Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, United’s no.2 discussed his partnership with the captain and called him a “fantastic player” to play alongside.
Lindelof: It's great to be back
Victor Lindelof gives his verdict after returning to the United side for the 3-0 win over Bournemouth...
“It is nice to be back," said Lindelof. "It’s always nice to get some minutes in the legs and to help the team get the three points. It felt good physically and, obviously, I have played a lot of games with 'H' [Harry Maguire] so I though he worked well today.
“We played a lot of games together and I think he is a fantastic player and he performed at a very high level today.”
United fought hard in their victory over the Cherries, with Casemiro tucking home a Christian Eriksen free-kick in the first half, before Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford scored well-worked team goals in the second half.
When asked about his side’s performance and their preparation for future matches, Lindelof believes having squad depth is vital.
“It is always great to score some goals and keep a clean sheet. I think we made it a little bit difficult towards the end, we could have controlled the game a little bit better. But we kept a clean sheet and won the game, so that is most important.
“I think is very important to have a squad. Because like you said, the games are coming thick and fast now so we need everyone to be ready to go out there and perform. That’s just what we need. Of course, the best thing in football is to play games. And when the games are coming thick and fast, it is the best thing.”
