Lindelof: I am always ready

Wednesday 12 October 2022 07:00

Victor Lindelof has insisted he is 'always ready' to pull on the Manchester United shirt, after recently passing the landmark of 200 appearances for the club.

The 28-year-old defender partnered Lisandro Martinez at the heart of United's defence, during our recent victories over Omonia Nicosia and Everton.

With injury affecting the beginning of his 2022/23 campaign, Victor had only appeared once prior to the September international break, but lay-offs for Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane have given him the opportunity to show Erik ten Hag what he can offer at the back.

He was a calm and composed figure as United got over the line at Goodison Park, providing a cool head in possession but also adding the necessary steel when required, particularly during a nervy last five minutes.

Lindelof has spent five years with the club now, following his 2017 move from Benfica, and he says he will always respond to his manager's call.

“I am always ready. Whenever the coach and the team needs me I am always there and of course I know what I can do out on the pitch,”said Victor, following our triumph at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.

“ I just want what is best for the team and as I said I am always there and always ready whenever the team needs me to come and perform.”

The Sweden defender, who has captained his national side since August of last year, racked up a double-century of games for United on Sunday, and he is only the 15th non-British or Irish player to have achieved that feat.

And Lindelof amplified the enormous sense of pride he feels, as well as praising the current team spirit at Old Trafford under Ten Hag.

Victor reflects on his 200th United appearance, plus our impressive football and battling mentality...

“It's a very special feeling and hopefully I can [achieve] some more,” Victor replied.

“That's my goal as I want to help the team, if I can be out there and help the team get three points then that's the best thing.

“I think we have a great feeling when we do score and we have some really great players,” he added.

“Everyone is getting along well and like I said it is very important to have that in the team.

“As well we have a strong squad and with us having a lot of games, we need everyone to stay ready and for me at the start of the season when I was injured, it is good for me to come back and be able to play.”
