Lindelof: We covered each other’s backs

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has praised the efforts of the whole team in our 3-0 win over Spurs.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave United a first-half lead with a wonderfully-executed right-footed volley before Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford contributed clinical finishes when one-on-one with Hugo Lloris in the second half.

The result is made all the more satisfying by the clean sheet, only the second one the Reds have achieved this term.

Lindelof said United's ability to keep Spurs out was down to every player on the pitch.

See how United earned a terrific 3-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in October 2021...

“It was a good defensive game for us of course," he told MUTV, "but we helped each other a lot, we covered each other’s backs and I think that’s the main part about today’s game.

“I always say that if we keep a clean sheet we’re always going to score goals and that’s exactly what we did today.

“It was very important for us to as a team to keep a clean sheet and I think that’s something we can build on.”

The Swede added that the change of formation to back three against Tottenham also helped. It was the first time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set United out in such a formation this season.

“It felt good," Lindelof said.

"I think we defended well. They didn’t have a lot of chances, but I think as well as a team today we defended very well.

“Everyone from the strikers down to David, you know and I think that’s very important especially from the strikers if they help us out then it makes it easier for everyone.”

At the other end, goals from two of our senior player’s in Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani helped setup the win, before Marcus Rashford added a late third.

“They’ve obviously shown that for many, many years and they are very, very important players for us," Lindelof said of United's experienced attacking duo.

"They showed immense quality today and they scored a goal as well so I mean yeah top quality, like always.”

Meanwhile the result also saw the club get back to winning ways following a disappointing result last weekend, something Victor was keen to put right.

“Obviously it was a tough defeat and we wanted a reaction and we wanted to bounce back as good as we could and I think we did that today. We showed what a great team we are and kept a clean sheet and scored three goals.

“Of course it’s been a very tough week for them [the fans] as well and it was very nice for us to be able to perform today and get a clean sheet and three points for them. They’ve been supporting us through thick and thin and as well today they were absolutely fantastic.”
