Lindelof's upbeat post after positive test

Victor Lindelof has delivered a message of gratitude to Manchester United supporters, following his positive test for COVID-19.

The Swedish centre-back missed Monday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle United due to the illness, and he will be absent again when Burnley come to Old Trafford on Thursday night as his enforced period of isolation continues.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed before kick-off at St James' Park that Lindelof's test had produced a positive result on Sunday, and it led to Raphael Varane returning alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the Reds' defence.

Victor is far from alone at United in having contracted the virus at some stage this month. Multiple infections in the squad meant that men's first-team operations at the club's Carrington training ground had to be closed for a few days, and the fixtures against Brentford on 14 December and Brighton & Hove Albion on 18 December were both postponed.

Although 'The Iceman' was absent from Wednesday's training session ahead of the Burnley game, it's clear from the video message he posted this afternoon on his Instagram story that the warm wishes he has received from supporters have helped him to keep his spirits up.

Lindelof said: "Hi everyone, I just want to check in real quick and first of all say thank you for all your messages in the past couple of weeks and in the past couple of days as well.

"I've seen them so I just want to say that I really appreciate it. Thank you so much for that. At the moment, I'm just home. I feel fine so hopefully I can be back with the guys soon.

"But anyway, thank you so much once again. I hope you had a great Christmas and I hope you have a great New Year's as well. Take care guys and stay safe."

Here's to a speedy return to action, Victor!
