Vote for United's October Player of the Month

Monday 01 November 2021 12:00

As we move into November, the time has come to vote for Manchester United's Player of the Month.

There is no escaping the fact it was a difficult month for the Reds, but it ended positively with Saturday's excellent 3-0 victory away to Tottenham in the capital.

Another highlight of this spell was the incredible comeback against Atalanta in the Champions League after the month started with a 1-1 draw with Everton. Of course, there were two hugely disappointing defeats to Leicester City and Liverpool, but who do you feel is most deserving of our award?

Three players have been nominated - David De Gea, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo - and you can cast your vote below...

Who was October's Player of the Month?

DAVID DE GEA - 5 apps

The United no.1 has maintained his own high level of performance and kept a second clean sheet of the season in the 3-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A number of other Reds could have been nominated - including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood - but some fine saves by David stick in the mind.

The Spain keeper thwarted Demarai Gray in the Everton contest but a double-stop from Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskyi in the Atalanta tie, that proved crucial to getting the three points, was the pick of the bunch. One tip-over from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the Liverpool clash was also out of the top drawer, as was a save to deny Youri Tielemans at Leicester.

MARCUS RASHFORD - 2 (2) apps / 3 goals

The homegrown forward made his comeback from injury at Leicester City and has already contributed three goals in a short space of time. He came off the bench to race onto Victor Lindelof's pass and level the score at 2-2.

Rashford then marked his first start since the shoulder operation with a calmly taken finish to begin the memorable comeback against Atalanta after striking the bar and going close on a couple of occasions. After being taken off in the second half of the Liverpool game, he made another big impression off the bench, at Spurs, when clinically converting Nemanja Matic's through ball for the third and final goal.

Our comeback against Atalanta wouldn’t have been possible without this double save from De Gea…

CRISTIANO RONALDO - 4 (1) games / 2 goals / 2 MOTM

Our no.7 is in contention to retain the award he won last month after twice picking up our Man-of-the-Match accolade, as voted by the fans. This recognition came in the games when he scored, nodding in the winner against Atalanta and volleying a superb strike to open the scoring at Spurs.

Even in the gut-wrenching defeat to Liverpool, he smashed a beautiful effort past Alisson, only for it to be chalked off after a lengthy VAR check. The Portugal international's experience and knowhow looked evident in dealing with the huge setback against the Merseysiders and he could prove hard to beat again in the voting.
