United Awards 2020/21: Time to cast your votes

Tuesday 11 May 2021 13:00

As a thrilling 2020/21 campaign for Manchester United enters its final exciting phase, the polls for two annual accolades have opened, enabling fans to decide which players will be honoured for their efforts from September to May.

The Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, presented by adidas football, will be keenly contested if the early social media debates about the potential recipients are indicative.

Every member of the current first-team squad can be selected in our online voting form and while the roll call of Player of the Month winners in 2020/21 may offer some clues as to who could come out on top, it's the efforts across the entire campaign that should be taken into account when casting your vote.

You may, for example, take into consideration the players who have made the biggest contributions to the Reds sweeping through the knockout stages of the Europa League, an achievement that extends our season to 26 May when we'll meet Villarreal in the final in Gdansk.
There is also, of course, the Premier League form to be factored in with United already securing a top-four finish, and therefore a place in next season's Champions League, with four games to spare. Sunday's superb 3-1 victory over Aston Villa was our 20th win in the competition this season and there have only been four defeats, three of which were inflicted in the first six fixtures.

Only one team, Manchester City, has scored more league goals than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's ever-improving side and even they, on the day, found the Reds too hot to handle with United winning the most recent derby match 2-0 in March. That was one of 18 away league matches in which we have picked up at least one point - another positive result in the 19th, at Wolves on 23 May, will mean we have navigated the entire Premier League season without losing a single game on the road.

In the domestic cups, there were five triumphs to be enjoyed - including away at Everton in the Carabao Cup and at home to Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup - before the quests for success ended at the semi-final and quarter-final stages respectively.

Voting for the 2020/21 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, presented by adidas football, will close at 23:59 BST this Sunday, 16 May.

United have scored well over 100 goals across all competitions in 2020/21 and while we hope to see a few more this month, including enough to win us the Europa League final, we have painstakingly compiled a shortlist of 20 scintillating strikes for you to watch and enjoy now, before - and here comes the difficult part - selecting your favourite.

Good luck to them all.
