Vote for United Women’s Player of the Month

Wednesday 29 May 2024 12:00

The poll is now open for fans to crown Manchester United Women’s Player of the Month for the final time in this 2023/24 season.

May was a mixed month for the Reds, with defeats to Liverpool and Chelsea in the WSL coming either side of a historic victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Contributions in that 4-0 success were therefore to be a central factor in the make-up of our latest shortlist, with Lucia Garcia, Lisa Naalsund and Ella Toone named as nominees following their standout performances at Wembley Stadium.

Below, is a reminder of their involvements both in the final and across the month, as well as the official poll for you to cast your vote…

Garcia was named our Player of the Match in the Wembley final.

3 appearances / 2 goals

The forward started all three of our May fixtures and put in a Player-of-the-Match-winning performance in our Women’s FA Cup final success. Garcia was presented with the award on an unforgettable day, after netting two of United’s four goals at the national stadium.

Having capitalised on a goalkeeping error to score her first, Lucia extended our advantage with an emphatic side-footed finish late on, having had the ball laid back to her by fellow POTM nominee Naalsund.

The Spain international won the corresponding prize 12 months ago and now has the chance to take it in back-to-back years, having netted big goals again at the business end of a campaign.

3 appearances / 2 assists

Naalsund completed her first full season at United by being named in Marc Skinner’s XI for all of our May outings.

The Norwegian has developed some real momentum since the turn of the year, starting all but one of our last 16 games across all competitions, and played a starring role in the cup-final triumph.

Patrolling from midfield, Lisa played the pass that preceded Toone’s wonder-strike to make it 1-0 and, as mentioned above, teed up Garcia to complete the scoring in the second half.
Naalsund's two assists against Spurs took her tally to six for the campaign.

3 appearances / 1 goal

Tooney has already collected individual honours in May, by winning a hat-trick of annual awards and is now in contention to claim her fourth Player of the Month trophy in 2023/24 after playing all three games - against Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Our Women’s Player of the Year, joint-Players’ Player of the Year and Goal of the Season winner received the latter prize for her superb strike in the FA Cup final triumph over Spurs, a curling attempt from distance which set the Reds on our way to a historic first major-trophy win under the Wembley arch.

It was Ella's ninth goal of the campaign and she also contributed the same number of assists.

It's already been a month to remember for Ella.
