Vote: United Women's POTM for September

Tuesday 01 October 2024 17:30

The vote is now open to crown Manchester United Women's first Player of the Month of the 2024/25 season.

The fan-voted prize, sponsored by the club's global partner Estee Lauder, returns following a perfect start to the new campaign for Marc Skinner's side in September.

United recorded WSL victories over West Ham and Everton during the month, with nominees Grace Clinton, Leah Galton and Lisa Naalsund all playing central roles in the season-opening successes.

Below, is a reminder of their contributions to those victories and the poll you need to cast your vote...

GRACE CLINTON (two appearances, two goals)

The midfielder won the PFA Young Player of the Year award on loan at Tottenham last season and has brought that accolade-winning form back to her parent club, at the start of this term.

Clinton was recognised by our supporters as the star of the show on her United debut in the campaign-opening win against West Ham at Old Trafford, on the back of a standout performance that included her first Reds goal; a perfectly placed glancing header at the Stretford End.

Our no.8 was then on the scoresheet again just four minutes into her return to former side Everton on Sunday, striking home the only goal of the game, before later being chosen as our MUTV radio commentators' Player of the Match.

LEAH GALTON (two appearances, one goal)

After sustaining an ankle injury in last season's Adobe Women's FA Cup final, our penultimate outing of the previous campaign, it has been great to have Leah back available for the start of the 2024/25 term.

Our no.11 has been tasked with an unfamiliar left-back role in the opening two matches, but has rose to the challenge brilliantly, and still managed to chip in as far as the goalscoring is concerned.

Galton's right-footed strike against West Ham doubled our lead at the Theatre of Dreams, and made her a subject of praise from Marc Skinner, for her notable versatility. “Not only is she an incredibly direct attacker, she’s a really good defender. She’s one of the best one-v-one defenders I’ve ever seen,” the boss said recently, in his pre-Everton press conference.

LISA NAALSUND (two appearances, one assist)

Naalsund has been a key player for the Reds in the maiden two matches of her second full season at the club.

Following an impressive personal campaign in 2023/24, the Norway international has continued to do her bit in connecting United's defence and attack, providing an energetic presence in a midfield that has helped to record back-to-back clean sheets and wins in recent weeks.

While bringing dynamism, Lisa has also showed her finesse and quality on the ball, not least when setting up Clinton's goal against the Hammers, with an expertly flighted cross into the box that was met to good effect by her midfield counterpart.

WOMEN'S GOAL OF THE MONTH

While you're here, you can also have your say in the vote to decide United Women's September Goal of the Month.

Clinton and Galton are also in contention to claim that accolade, alongside team-mate Geyse, who opened our account for the campaign with a clever close-range finish against West Ham.

It is the first time that there will be a dedicated United Women's monthly goal prize, and you can find a video round-up of the contenders below, along with the all-important poll.
