Vote for United's Goal of the Month

Tuesday 04 February 2020 15:00

Now that January is behind us, the time has come to vote for your Manchester United Goal of the Month.

We’ve put together 10 top strikes from the games our various teams played across the first month of 2020.

Watch the video above and vote for your favourite in the poll on our Official App – but be quick, voting closes at 12:00 GMT - midday - on Friday.

JAMES GARNER V NEWCASTLE (U23s)

Garner has scored several spectacular goals for the Under-23s this season, and this strike against the Magpies was no exception. Receiving the ball on the edge of the area from Hannibal Mejbri, the 18-year-old unleashed a curling effort into the top corner, via the post.

MASON GREENWOOD V NORWICH

The 18-year-old’s impressive first full campaign in the senior team continued as he struck his 10th of the season in a convincing win over the Canaries. Just introduced as a substitute, Mason picked up a loose ball, checked back on to his left foot and fired the ball into the far-right corner, beyond the reach of Tim Krul.

JANE ROSS V BRIGHTON (WOMEN)

Our Scottish forward swept United Women into the semi-finals of the Continental League Cup, with this confident finish from Jess Sigsworth’s centre. It was a team move, though, with Katie Zelem’s crossfield pass playing a major part in allowing the Reds to turn the Brighton defence.

JUAN MATA V WOLVES

Our three matches against the Black Country outfit in 2020 have delivered just one goal – but what a goal it was! Harry Maguire’s long ball forward found Anthony Martial, who shielded it well before playing Mata through on goal. The Spaniard took one look at John Ruddy, who was rushing out to meet him, before dinking delicately over the ex-Norwich keeper and into the back of the net.

KATIE ZELEM V SPURS (WOMEN)

We all know how good Zelem is at set pieces, and this effort, on a foggy day at Leigh Sports Village, may well be up there with her very best. The captain saw a gap to curl the ball around the wall and beyond Spurs’ keeper Chloe Morgan, helping the Reds to a 3-0 win over last season’s promotion rivals.

LAUREN JAMES V MAN CITY (WOMEN)

Although James and her team-mates were unfortunately on the end of a derby defeat, her strike was arguably the standout goal of this end-to-end Women’s FA Cup tie. Our young forward picked up the ball in the right channel, cut inside on to her left and crashed the ball home, beating Ellie Roebuck at her near post.

HARRY MAGUIRE V TRANMERE

Our new skipper’s first goal for the club was a long time coming… and it certainly wasn’t the type of effort we might have expected! Carrying the ball out from defence, Maguire just decided to keep on going. Evading the efforts of the Tranmere backline to dispossess him, the 26-year-old released a howitzer of a strike which took the slightest of deflections before nestling in the top-right corner.

DIOGO DALOT V TRANMERE

The next goal in that game at Prenton Park – Dalot’s first for the Reds - was another one to savour. Martial laid the ball off to the Portuguese, who, using his stronger right foot, hooked the ball back on to his left before smashing it across goalkeeper Scott Davies.

Nemanja Matic is congratulated by team-mates after scoring against Manchester City.

NEMANJA MATIC V MAN CITY

We’ll take any goal to win a Manchester derby, but Matic’s first-time hit, which just glanced the upright on its way in, was particularly special. Nemanja may have only scored four times in his two-and-a-half years at United, but when he does find the net, the goals are certainly worth talking about!

AIDAN BARLOW V NORWICH (U23s)

Sometimes a goal is made better by the quality of the assist, and that was certainly the case in this Under-23s match at Carrow Road. Angel Gomes’s dinked through-ball fell perfectly for Barlow, who simply had to lift it over the oncoming Norwich goalkeeper to equalise and set the Reds on our way to a vital 2-1 win in Premier League 2 Division Two.
