What has Varane been saying to Casemiro?

Raphael Varane thinks Manchester United are in tune with what manager Erik ten Hag is demanding and he has been discussing with Casemiro his belief that we are on the brink of something special.

The Reds may have dropped two points in the home game with Leeds United in midweek but the character in the side was clear for all to see as we recovered a two-goal deficit to earn a draw.

Varane, who recently retired from international football with France, appreciates the buzz around the place and is convinced good times are around the corner for the club.

He has been telling Casemiro, who was also his team-mate at Real Madrid, that he is feeling very happy and settled in Manchester.

"It's true that, so far this season, I’ve been selected to start in a lot of matches compared to last season," he told the Premier League international broadcasters. "Which allows me to get settled and to share my experience and positional know-how, to have a bearing on the rhythm of each match, when we’re playing well or not so well.

"But I always try to guide and assist my team-mates in defence and I’m really enjoying my match time.

"I love playing, and I was saying the very same thing just the other day to Casemiro. There’s something really special going on here, a real buzz about the place and emotions are running high. I’m really glad that I’ve integrated into the team and to my life over here so well."

"We’re all enjoying playing together and that can be seen on the pitch and you can see, from the results, that there’s a very positive dynamic about the team," added the stylish centre-back.

"We’re adapting to the new manager and there’s a good understanding between us all now. We know exactly how he wants us to play and that shows on the pitch too - we are comfortable with how he wants us to defend, how to mount attacks and how to manage the match, and we’re all pretty relaxed and progressing with confidence.

"We’ve really put in a lot of hard work, in training and during video sessions, working on the details, and thus creating programmed responses to situations. So the results are there to see and now its just about continuity, keeping on in the same vein."
