What’s Cavani’s record against AC Milan like?

Edinson Cavani could be in line for a return to the San Siro this week when Manchester United take on AC Milan in the second leg of our Europa League last-16 tie.

The striker used to regularly make the journey to the Milanese stadium to take on AC Milan, and of course Internazionale, during his time in Italy.

From his six years in Serie A, Edinson played 12 times against Milan and netted four times against the seven-time European champions.

One of the highlights of his six-year stint in Serie A came in September 2011, when he scored a hat-trick against the Rossoneri for Napoli. Even a mouthwatering centre-back partnership of Thiago Silva and Alessandro Nesta couldn’t stop the rampant striker, in a season when he scored 33 goals across all competitions.
Edi guided Napoli to a 3-1 win over Milan in 2011.

Cavani also scored in a 3-1 win over Milan when playing for Palmero in November 2008, on a night when the likes of Paolo Maldini, Andrea Pirlo and Ronaldinho were on show for the opposition. Overall, from his 12 games against Milan, the attacker won five, drew three and lost four.

Edi missed last week’s first-leg encounter with Milan through injury and it’s hoped he will have recovered in time for the trip to Italy on Thursday, where he'll be aiming to add to his four goals against the Rossoneri.

The 34-year-old also took part in training on Tuesday, which is a huge boost ahead of the second leg.

He’s not the only current United player to have netted against our last-16 opponents. Of course, Amad’s header last week means we head to Italy on the back of a 1-1 draw, but Paul Pogba has also scored against the Rossoneri.

The Frenchman netted the winner for Juventus at the San Siro in the 2015/16 season, in a 2-1 victory where current Milan striker Mario Mandzukic was on target for the Old Lady.

Later that term, Paul, who might also be available for Thursday’s game following a spell out through injury, also played in the Coppa Italia final against Milan when then-Juventus striker Alvaro Morata grabbed the only goal of the game in extra-time.

Current Reds Sergio Romero, Alex Telles and Bruno Fernandes have also gone up against the Rossoneri during their respective spells in Italy.
