Revealed: Sabitzer’s Fantasy Premier League price

Wednesday 01 February 2023 14:30

Marcel Sabitzer has been added to Fantasy Premier League (FPL) following confirmation of his loan move from Bayern Munich to Manchester United.

The 28-year-old completed a switch to Old Trafford for the remainder of the season in the early hours of Wednesday morning and has now been added to the league’s official fantasy football game.

Sabitzer is not eligible to make his Reds debut in this evening’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest due to his visa process still being ongoing, but should that be completed in time for the weekend, he could feature in our Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Ahead of that fixture, Sabitzer has been added to FPL and comes in at a price of £5.0 million.

Our contest with Crystal Palace is the first of two matches in what is known as a ‘double gameweek’ - in FPL terms - for Erik ten Hag’s side this week, with our home encounter against Leeds next Wednesday also classed as part of the upcoming round of fixtures.

United and Leeds are the only teams who will be in action twice in the Premier League in that time period, making members of the two squads – including our new loan signing – all the more appealing this week to FPL players, with double the chance to earn fantasy points.

With Christian Eriksen sidelined for an extended period and Ten Hag also reporting that Scott McTominay could miss the Palace game through injury, Sabitzer could be a contender for some minutes in midfield, if he is able to play.

Although he may have been limited for game-time and goal contributions over the last one-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich, Marcel’s numbers at his previous clubs including RB Leipzig show that he could potentially be an interesting option for FPL managers looking for a second-half-of-the-season differential.

Sabitzer racked up double-digit totals for goal contributions in league football across six of his eight seasons prior to his 2021 move to Bayern. When he didn't quite break that barrier in the other two campaigns, he still tallied nine goals and assists.

In Europe, United fans may predominantly remember his influential performance for Leipzig during our Champions League meeting at the Red Bull Arena in the 2020/21 season, a game in which he registered an assist as early as the second minute.
