When is Martial due to return?

Anthony Martial looks set to miss the weekend game with Arsenal, in addition to Thursday's Premier League clash at Leicester City.

The French forward has only made a fleeting contribution so far this term, but did supply a crucial assist for Marcus Rashford's eventual winner against Liverpool in the pulsating 2-1 victory at Old Trafford last month.

Unfortunately, he later picked up an injury during that substitute appearance, and has since been unavailable for manager Erik ten Hag.

It is a shame for all concerned, as the striker had been in excellent form during pre-season and looked sharp after spending the end of 2021/22 on loan at Sevilla.

With a busy schedule planned, it is hoped Martial will recover full fitness before the international break in September.

Before then, of course, United face Leicester on Thursday (20:00 BST) and entertain high-flying Arsenal in a home game on Sunday (16:30 BST).

Our Europa League campaign then begins with another Old Trafford occasion, against Real Sociedad (Thursday 8 September), and a league trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday 11 September is next in the diary.

The following week features games with Sheriff Tiraspol in Europe and a home clash with Leeds United, before the pause in action.

The boss discusses Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial ahead of the Leicester game.

With so many matches to come, having Martial available again sooner rather than later will be important for the boss.

During his chat with club media in advance of the journey to the King Power Stadium, Ten Hag confirmed: "Anthony Martial is not available. He will be out at least one week but I think it takes a little bit longer."

That would appear to rule him out of the eagerly awaited clash with the Gunners on Sunday.
