When is the Carabao Cup fourth-round draw?

Wednesday 27 September 2023 00:24

Manchester United began our defence of the Carabao Cup with a commanding 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace to ensure our safe passage into the fourth round.

The Reds dominated for the whole 90 minutes, taking the lead when Alejandro Garnacho scored his first goal of the season by converting Diogo Dalot’s low cross in the 21st minute.

Only minutes later, we made it two, Casemiro taking his tally for the season to four, nodding in powerfully from the returning Mason Mount’s accurate corner.

After the break, Anthony Martial also got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this term by caressing Casemiro’s cross beyond substitute goalkeeper Sam Johnstone with a controlled half-volley into the far corner.

United could have had more thereafter but with the job more than done, we could be happy with our night’s work, with Dan Gore – making his professional bow for the Reds – among those getting valuable minutes from the bench in the latter stages.

WHEN IS THE DRAW?

Erik ten Hag and his players will now inevitably turn their attentions to the fourth-round draw as we look to continue our defence of the trophy we lifted at Wembley back in February.

The first set of third-round fixtures on Tuesday night has already seen top-tier sides exit the competition, and more are destined to follow, with a series of all-Premier League clashes in store on Wednesday evening.

Following the conclusion of Newcastle United’s match against Manchester City on Wednesday night (20:00 BST kick-off), we will learn who we will face in the fourth round when the draw is made live on Sky Sports.

This is expected to take place at approximately 10.20pm, but will be delayed if Newcastle and our city rivals cannot be separated after 90 minutes.

WHO COULD WE FACE?

Exeter City and Ipswich Town were among those to join United in progressing to the next round from Tuesday night’s fixtures, both upsetting Premier League opposition in the process – knocking out Luton Town and Wolves, respectively.

Both of those winning sides included United connections, with Academy graduate Demetri Mitchell scoring Exeter’s winner, while former Reds first-team coach Kieran McKenna led his Ipswich side – which included Reds loanee Brandon Williams – to come from behind against Wolves to win 3-2.

Elsewhere, Burnley were the only other Premier League side to progress on Tuesday night, at the expense of Salford City, with Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough one of five EFL sides to seal their passage into the next round.

Along with Manchester City and Newcastle, Premier League sides Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa are among the sides set to get their Carabao Cup campaigns under way on Wednesday night, with some cracking all top-flight ties in prospect.
