Are United the top club at the World Cup?

Manchester United players' exploits at the World Cup finals in Qatar got us thinking over whether we've been the top club at the tournament, when it comes down to goal involvements.

Our Reds have contributed four goals and four assists during the first two rounds of matches in the Middle East.

Portugal's Bruno Fernandes has netted twice, with Brazil star Casemiro and Marcus Rashford of England also on the scoresheet.

Bruno also has two assists to his name, while Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire have one apiece from England's victory over Iran, while Casemiro had one chalked off when Vinicius's strike against Switzerland was disallowed, following the VAR review.

Read what the Brazil striker has tweeted about our man following his sensational winning goal at the World Cup.

It has been an impressive start by our men in Qatar and ranks us second, by our reckoning, in terms of clubs' goal involvements during the matches to date.

Although assists are logged differently by various organisations, we have used those recorded by Livescore for the finals.

This results in only Barcelona being ahead of United, with 10 involvements in total, bolstered by the likes of Poland's Robert Lewandowski, Netherlands midfielder Frenkie De Jong, Denmark defender Andreas Christensen and the club's healthy Spain contingent (they have eight players in Luis Enrique's squad).

Ferran Torres, Gavi and Jordi Alba have all featured prominently for Spain as they hit Costa Rica for seven before drawing with Germany.

Paris Saint-German are next best, and they are the club with the most goals at the finals - six in total. Kylian Mbappe has three, Lionel Messi two and Carlos Soler one. However, the French champions have only recorded one assist so far, Messi's pass to Enzo Fernandez in Argentina's 2-0 win over Mexico.

Tottenham's representatives are doing well too and the north Londoners are the second-best Premier League side for contributions. Harry Kane has a couple of assists and Richarlison struck a double for Brazil in their opening win over Serbia.

Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Milan also make our list ahead of the final round of group matches.
