United players celebrate goal

Who won Man of the Match against Luton?

Sunday 18 February 2024 20:30

Manchester United continued an impressive start to 2024 with a fifth straight victory in all competitions on Sunday.

Our 2-1 victory over Luton Town earned a fourth successive Premier League win which took the Reds to within three points of fifth-placed Tottenham.

Rasmus Hojlund stole the show with two goals in the opening seven minutes - United’s fastest ever 2-0 lead in an away Premier League match.

Carlton Morris headed one back in the 14th minute for Luton, who played their part in an entertaining contest and pushed United all the way.

But despite withstanding pressure and missing a number of second-half chances, the Reds emerged victorious on our first league visit to Kenilworth Road since 1992.

United's matchwinner at Kenilworth Road - Rasmus Hojlund - has the phone and a message for you...

After the final whistle, fans voted in their numbers in our poll to determine which Red earned the Man of the Match prize.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hojlund’s brace and energetic display earned the Danish striker an emphatic 75 per cent of the final vote - on a day our no.11 made Premier League history, becoming the youngest player to score in six consecutive league matches.

After the game, Rasmus gave his assessment of his two goals and more to MUTV and Sky Sports - which you can read and watch here.

Also in the thoughts of supporters was Kobbie Mainoo, who received 14 per cent of the vote as the teenage midfielder put in yet another mature performance in the heat of the battle in the engine room.

Alejandro Garnacho earned the next highest proportion of fans’ votes with three per cent. Our no.17 played his part in the second goal, when his fierce volley was diverted into the net by Hojlund and his pace was a constant threat on the break, through which he had opportunities to add to his seven goals in all competitions this season.

However, it was ultimately Hojlund who won our Man of the Match award, for the second time this term. Congratulations, Rasmus!
