Dimitar Berbatov wore some great shirts during his four-year spell at Manchester United, with some forever associated with the success we enjoyed in them.

The Bulgarian forward played for the Reds between 2008 and 2012, and recently featured in BT Sport’s ‘What I Wore’ series, which takes footballers through a showcase of iconic shirts from their past.

Alongside his United kits, several other clubs were on display during the walkthrough of his career, including the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and Monaco.

As he progressed through the teams he played for, Berbatov reached our 2007-09 home shirt. This was the first United kit our former no.9 wore for the club, having signed from Tottenham in 2008.

"I mean look at that shirt," enthused Dimitar. "I mean, the red, the gold, the badge. I love this one.

"The badge, the history, the manager, the players, the trophies.

"And in my mind, it was like the moment to make my last and final step to reach my mountain. My top, my personal top.

"This one was the shirt that I loved to put on."

Towards the end of the episode, Berbatov was asked which kit from his career meant the most to him.

Despite not being the biggest fan of our 2010/11 home shirt, he says that the memories it conjures up place it above the rest, in his mind.

"That is an impossible choice to make," he said, when asked to identify his standout strip.

"But, if I need to make memories of football where a reached my top, my personal top. Scoring goals and [becoming] champions. Obviously, even if I don’t like the shirt, will go with this one. Because we became champions, my hat-trick against Liverpool. I was the goalscorer of my team in the Premier League.

"I like it, but I don’t love it. This had a bit more weight on it because of the things you just said. The free-kick, the five goals against Blackburn. The memories the shirt can bring back are priceless.

"Of course, the three goals, the bicycle kick against Liverpool. We became champions that year. I became top goalscorer of the Premier League and my team as well. And all this comes from that shirt on my back."
