Which Red changed Erik's transfer plans?

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that the emergence of Alejandro Garnacho this season prompted him to alter his transfer plans at the club.

The Argentina Under-20 international, a key member of last term's FA Youth Cup-winning side, has provided another option on the left flank and looks a threat whenever running at defenders.

Although he was sacrificed late on, following his introduction against Crystal Palace on Saturday, with the 10-man Reds being forced to hold on to our 2-1 lead, the 18-year-old was involved in the build-up to Marcus Rashford's eventual winner and his availability for Wednesday's clash with Leeds United could prove even more important with Antony now ruled out due to injury.

Erik ten Hag admits Alejandro Garnacho's emergence has changed his thinking.

When asked by the press about searching for a new midfielder in the summer, the boss outlined why he is always thinking about the future but things can often change rapidly in football.

''I think [with] our summer plans, we have an idea on the long term," he said. "You will also look two-three windows ahead and so we have that long-term plan.

"But also, you have to revisit that plan every time because of developments. For instance, who could have expected this development with [Alejandro] Garnacho? And so this changes your approach to the window.''

There has been speculation Garnacho will sign a new contract but, when asked about the situation regarding agreeing deals with the youngster, David De Gea, Diogo Dalot and Harry Maguire, the manager stressed official communication will be made if there is anything to say on this front.

"When we have news, we will straight [away] inform you," he declared.

Garnacho will hope to make his 22nd senior appearance of the season against Leeds United on Wednesday.
