Manchester United's reward for defeating Burnley in the Carabao Cup is a place in the quarter-finals. But who could the Reds face and when will the draw be made? Here is all you need to know.

WHEN WILL THE DRAW BE MADE?

The draw will take place live on Sky Sports Main Event following the Manchester City v Liverpool game at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday 22 December 2022.

Mark Chapman will be hosting the proceedings, while the draw will be made by two goalkeepers - the former City and Newcastle United no.1 Shay Given, as well as Manchester United Women's very own Mary Earps.

The fixtures for the Carabao Cup quarter-final will be played in the week commencing 9 January 2023.

WHO COULD UNITED PLAY?

Joining United in the hat already are Charlton Athletic, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, while the winners between City and Liverpool will complete the line-up.

Leicester moved comfortably into the last eight with a 3-0 victory over League One’s MK Dons, with goals coming from Youri Tielemans, Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy. Wolves saw life under new manager Julian Lopetegui start with a 2-0 win over League Two strugglers Gillingham. Mexican striker Raul Jimenez opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Rayan Ait-Nouri bagged the second.

Southampton had to come from behind to avoid a shock against Lincoln City. An own goal from shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu gave Lincoln the lead before a brace from Che Adams made it 2-1 for the Saints and gave new manager Nathan Jones his first victory.

Meanwhile, Newcastle fought hard to see off fellow Premier League side Bournemouth, with an own goal from full-back Adam Smith proving enough for the Magpies to make it to the quarter-finals. League One's Charlton Athletic upset Brighton and Hove Albion, holding them 0-0 and then winning 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out at the Valley.

As mentioned before, United’s neighbours City and arch-rivals Liverpool will go head to head for the final spot, at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, with kick-off at 20:00 GMT.
