The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is hard to call. Several nations boast talented squads, with superstars scattered across every single group.

Brazil and Argentina are among the favourites from South America, while European giants – and current holders – France have a good chance of retaining the trophy this winter.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire shares this view, and says that more than quarter of the nations competing in Qatar could go all the way – including England, the nation he is of course representing at the tournament.

Harry Maguire can't wait to pull on an England jersey again in Qatar this winter...

“I think there are so many good teams,” said the defender when previewing the 2022 tournament in an exclusive interview with club media.

“Brazil and Argentina are going to be really strong, but in Europe you’ve got France who are going to be a tough team [and] who have amazing players.

“So yeah, I think there are so many good teams. You’re looking at eight or nine teams who could easily win the tournament and England’s one of them.”

In the last World Cup, in 2018, Harry was part of the England side who were eliminated in the semi-final by Croatia. This time round, the defender is hoping the Three Lions can go all the way.

“I think we’ve got as good a chance as anybody,” he said. “I think it’s an exciting time; it’s an exciting group of players that we have. We have a lot of talent.

“You all know to win a World Cup you’ve got to perform well, get every detail right, and also get a little bit of luck on your side maybe, in the big moments in the game.

“We’ve just come off the back of a semi-final at the World Cup [and] a final at the Euros so of course we are going to have a good chance. But for sure, we’ve got to perform well.”
