Who was our Man of the Match?

Tuesday 03 January 2023 22:52

Manchester United kicked off 2023 in style, by beating Bournemouth 3-0 at Old Trafford for what was our seventh consecutive home win across all competitions.

Casemiro gave the Reds the lead midway through the first half, tucking home Christian Eriksen's superb lofted free-kick for his first-ever Old Trafford goal.

Luke Shaw added our second just four minutes after the break, starting and finishing a rapid breakaway, before Marcus Rashford rounded off the result late on by tapping home following good work from Bruno Fernandes and Shaw once again.

All three goalscorers were popular picks in our post-match Man of the Match poll, along with another Red who was impressive at the other end.

David De Gea made three fine saves when the score was at 2-0, including a brilliant fingertip stop from Jaidon Anthony's effort.

Those interventions, which secured our fourth straight clean sheet in all competitions since the World Cup, were enough to see the Spaniard finish third in a poll, above Rashford in fourth.

Shaw and Casemiro were only separated by a small margin for first and second, but ultimately it was the popular Brazilian who won out after his goal and yet another combative midfield performance.

Our no.18 now has four MOTM wins for the season, tying Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for the most among Erik ten Hag's squad.

The former Real Madrid man also claimed the award last Tuesday, for his showing in the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, and after October's draws with Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Our World Cup winner was welcomed back to Old Trafford and he showed off his medal...

Shaw was impressive once again after returning to left-back from the central defensive position he has occupied for the last two matches, and his strike was only his fourth in United colours and his first at Old Trafford since August 2018.

Thanks to everyone for voting and congratulations again to Casemiro!
