Who was Man of the Match at Wolves?

Tuesday 09 December 2025 10:47

Manchester United recorded a confident 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in our Monday-night trip to Molineux.

The Reds broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Bruno Fernandes recovered from a slip to poke home the opener, a just reward for the pressure exerted on the hosts in the early moments, but there may have been fears of an unlikely upset when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde managed to level the game on the stroke of half-time.

Ruben Amorim's men emerged from the interval undeterred by the late setback, and this time left nothing to chance, with Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount and Fernandes, notching a second from the spot, putting us beyond sight, in a game that may even have seen more goals on another day.

But who stole the show in the Midlands? Here's who you, the fans, voted as your Man of the Match...

Who was United's Man of the Match against Wolves? You decide…

Pulling in a remarkable 63 per cent of the vote, you anointed our captain, Fernandes, as your Man of the Match against Wolves.

It was an all-action display from the Portugal international, playing in his now-regular deeper midfield position with Casemiro, but not letting that take anything away from his attacking output.

He was the first alive to the opportunity created by Matheus Cunha's interception, racing to assist his team-mate in the box. He slipped just as the Brazilian dispatched the pass, but managed to use his body to shield the ball from Emmanuel Agbadou and, still off-balance, improvised a poked finish underneath Academy graduate Sam Johnstone.

His next contribution saw the 31-year-old turn provider with an inch-perfect ball lobbed over the Wolves defence, picking out fellow midfielder Mount so precisely that the Englishman didn't need to take a touch, volleying the chance first time to seal United's third.

Having opened proceedings, it fell to Bruno to close the show from the spot, after Yerson Mosquera was judged to have blocked an Amad shot with his arm inside the box.

Taking a deep breath as he stepped up to take the penalty, none of the whistles or jeers inside Molineux appeared to mark his steely exterior and, as expected, he dispatched the penalty neat into the bottom-left corner, so well-aimed that Johnstone dived the correct way but couldn't get near the strike.

Mount collected a very respectable 25 per cent for his display, including that ghosting run and volley for the Reds' third.

But it was always going to be difficult to steal the limelight from Fernandes with his two goals and an assist, making this the captain's third Man of the Match award this season, and his second in December, following a notable performance against Crystal Palace.

Congratulations, Bruno! Thank you to everyone who voted.
