Who was Man of the Match against Fulham?

Sunday 28 May 2023 20:10

Manchester United ended our Premier League season with a win, after coming from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Kenny Tete had headed the visitors in front with a powerful near-post effort on 19 minutes, and Marco Silva's side looked set to extend their advantage even further, when Tom Cairney was awarded a penalty only moments later, after being brought down in the box by Casemiro.

But David De Gea produced a superb low stop to keep out Aleksander Mitrovic's low strike from 12 yards, effectively turning the tide of the game, as the Reds became dominant, drawing level barely 10 minutes later through Jadon Sancho, before Bruno Fernandes completed the comeback early in the second half.

Pivotal in the role of both goals was midfielder Fred, one of six changes Erik ten Hag made to his line-up after our midweek victory over Chelsea, and there were plenty of other Reds - beyond our two goalscorers - who caught the eye with their displays in M16.

As ever, fans had the opportunity to vote for their Man of the Match on ManUtd.com and in the United App - read on to discover the winner from our final league outing of the campaign.

On completion of our poll, Fernandes came out on top, bagging 36 per cent of the vote.

The no.8 has been in superb form in the closing part of the campaign, and is our reigning Player of the Month, having lifted that trophy in both March and April.

He was also the recipient of the star-man award in the home wins over Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers recently, and is likely to be a key figure in the Manchester derby, against City at Wembley next Saturday.

De Gea was a pretty close second, on 25 per cent, with his performances in the last few games also rightly drawing plenty of praise. His penalty save was certainly a special moment, celebrated wildly by the crowd.

Jadon Sancho was third (16%), with Fred perhaps a little unlucky to only to finish in fourth spot - as he was looking to win his second Man of the Match award of the campaign, following a starring role in the Europa League home victory against Barcelona.

Thanks to everybody who voted!
