Revealed: United's Man of the Match v Wolves

Thursday 01 February 2024 23:41

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been voted as our Man of the Match following the dramatic 4-3 victory away to Wolves.

The 18-year-old scored the game's decisive seventh goal in the 97th minute, shortly after Wolves had levelled the game at 3-3, and looked to have snatched a late point on home soil.

But down the other end, some silky footwork and veteran-like composure in front of goal saw Mainoo restore the Reds' lead with what would prove to be the eventual winner.

Who gets your pick for Man of the Match after a thrilling triumph in the Midlands?

Understandably, the Academy graduate, who was announced as our January Player of the Month earlier in the day, was therefore a favourite among fans in our Man of the Match poll.

The no.37 picked up a massive 79-per-cent share of all votes, following his contributions at Molineux.

It should be said that, while his stoppage-time strike was the undoubtable highlight of his night, the midfielder put in a strong all-round showing in what was a positive performance on the whole from United, despite several second-half setbacks.

Mainoo won 100 per cent of his tackles, successfully contested seven duels and completed 27 of his 32 passes in a versatile display from the middle of the park, alongside Casemiro.

In our Man of the Match rankings, Kobbie finished ahead of Rasmus Hojlund, who received eight per cent of the vote in second place. The Danish forward assisted Marcus Rashford's opener before scoring his third goal in his last three games, to make it 2-0.

Captain Bruno Fernandes – who set up Scott McTominay's goal on the night – tied in third with Lisandro Martinez, who was making his first league start since September. The pair each accumulated three per cent.

Congratulations to Kobbie and thank you to everyone who voted.
