Who was United's Man of the Match at Molineux?

Manchester United's final Man of the Match poll for 2022 eventually had a clear winner, while the runner-up claimed the equivalent award from the Premier League.

Listening to the post-match punditry across different channels, it was clear that the performances of Marcus Rashford and David De Gea split opinion on who was the Reds' most influential player at Molineux.

Rashford, of course, came off the bench at half-time to eventually break the deadlock after Wolves had successfully repelled everything that Erik ten Hag's men had previously thrown at them.

But while Jose Sa was busy between the posts for the hosts, his counterpart at the opposite end of the pitch also had to be on his toes.
David De Gea and Marcus Rashford were both strong contenders for the Man of the Match award.
De Gea made two world-class saves. The first kept out Ruben Neves's brilliantly bending free-kick and the second, even more memorably, prevented Raul Jimenez's point-blank header levelling the scores in second-half injury time when Wolves were piling on some last-gasp pressure.

But despite these vital interventions by our Spanish no.1, the majority of fans voting in the United App picked Rashford as the top performer in Ten Hag's victorious team.
The England forward, who scored three times for his country during the World Cup, has now netted the same number of goals since club football resumed.

Rashford's strikes against Burnley and Nottingham Forest may have been aesthetically more attractive but there was still much to be admired in the way he played a rapid one-two with Bruno Fernandes, held off a challenge from Wolves' substitute defender Jonny and lashed the ball past Sa to seal the win.

That decisive moment in the match helped Marcus to earn 56 per cent of the vote in our official poll at full-time.

De Gea finished second in the poll, with 16 per cent of the votes, but walked away with the Premier League's accolade for his efforts.

Third place in our contest was claimed by Casemiro, who once again took control of the proceedings in midfield and shrugged off the minor blow of being booked by referee Robert Jones to help the Reds power through to full-time and three more precious points.

Congratulations to Marcus for winning our award and thanks to every fan who voted in the app.
