Sunday 04 September 2022 19:46

Manchester United’s Man of the Match against Arsenal can now be revealed.

It was another cohesive effort that ensured the Reds would emerge as 3-1 winners at the expense of the Premier League leaders, with new signing Antony and Marcus Rashford – twice – on the scoresheet.

One Red emerged as a clear winner for his contribution to the performance, with more than half of your votes, as you can see below in our final poll result.

Brace-scorer Marcus has been chosen as our key man, with 57 per cent of the vote, following another highly influential showing.

Backing up his assist for Jadon Sancho’s winner at Leicester in midweek, Rashford put the ball on a plate for new recruit Antony in the first half, who would go on to open the scoring with his first goal for the Reds.

After Bukayo Saka made it 1-1 on the hour mark, Rashford got on the scoresheet himself to restore our advantage, placing the ball past Aaron Ramsdale after being superbly put through on goal by an inch-perfect Bruno Fernandes through ball.

Our no.10 then doubled up on his tally for the day, finishing into an empty net after he was unselfishly teed up by Christian Eriksen, less than 10 minutes after his first strike.
Rashford once again led the line for the Reds as a lone striker and delighted his manager Erik ten Hag with his performance.

"He was brilliant,” The boss told MUTV post-match.

“It was a really great performance from him. As a striker, he was pressing. But also, when we played it over him and he was the target, he made the right decisions. For instance, also with the goal for Antony.

“Finally, he was twice in behind and finished. It was a great performance and I'm really happy because he has invested a lot."

In our poll, Christian Eriksen - who could have won the award on another day after another fine display in the middle of the park – finished as our runner-up to Rashford.

The Dane received 19 per cent of the vote following a controlled showing once more, registering his first goal contribution in United colours after setting up Marcus’s second.

The final whistle was met with an explosion of joy at Old Trafford, after United beat Arsenal 3-1…

New signing Antony came third on seven per cent, having netted on his club debut in front of a jubilant Old Trafford crowd.

The Brazilian completed his move from Ajax earlier this week and had a bow to remember against the Gunners, leaving the pitch to a standing ovation when he was replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 58th minute.
