Who was our Man of the Match against Leeds?

Wednesday 08 February 2023 23:17

Manchester United fought back to earn a 2-2 draw with Leeds United at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag's side recovering from two goals down.

Wilfried Gnonto's first-minute strike and a Raphael Varane own goal helped the Yorkshiremen race ahead, before United showed superb willingness and desire to level matters in the second half.

England duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were both on target inside the final half an hour, before Raphael Varane and Bruno Fernandes went closest to claiming all three points in front of a raucous atmosphere.

Marcel Sabizter started his first game for the club and looked tidy in midfield, while youngster Facundo Pellistri impressed during his late cameo, making his Premier League debut in the process.

Following an entertaining 90 minutes of action, we can now reveal who topped our poll to claim the Man of the Match award this evening...

It finished honours-even, but who was your Man of the Match?

Having netted his fourth goal of the season, forward Jadon Sancho has scooped the award for his match-levelling strike, after being introduced just before the hour mark by Ten Hag.

Our no.25 latched on to a loose ball that kindly fell his way inside the penalty area, taking just one touch to set himself and firing past Illan Meslier in the Leeds goal.

Sancho was mobbed by his team-mates following the strike, which sparked wild scenes inside the Theatre of Dreams, and topped our poll with 33 per cent of the vote.

A particular bright spark following his introduction, Jadon's neat link-up play with Luke Shaw tested the Yorkshiremen's resolve heading into the final stages, although United were unable to find the vital winner that would have brought the house down.

Claiming second place was Rashford, who netted his 20th goal of the season.

Marcus towered over Robin Koch to head home and also became the first United player to score in six consecutive appearances at Old Trafford in the Premier League since Wayne Rooney in April 2012. He claimed 30 per cent of the total poll.

Marcus was a particular thorn in the side of the Leeds United defence at the Theatre of Dreams this evening.

Fan-favourite Lisandro Martinez scooped 17 per cent of the polling to pick up third place, after another warrior-like display at the heart of United's display.

Congratulations, Jadon on winning your first MOTM award since September.
