Who was United's Man of the Match against Forest?

Saturday 26 August 2023 18:30

After four minutes of Manchester United's clash against Nottingham Forest, the question of who could be United's Man of the Match didn't even bare thinking about.

Early goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly saw Erik ten hag's side trail by two goals and, if it wasn't for the resilience of United's players, it could well have gotten worse.

But it didn't, and instead many Reds shone, as finishes from Christian Eriksen and Casemiro either side of the half-time mark were topped off by Bruno Fernandes's spot-kick to earn Ten Hag's side a hard-fought victory.

Upon the conclusion of the action-packed encounter at the Theatre of Dreams, we put the question of United's Man of the Match to you, the fans, via an interactive poll.

As you can see below, one player stood out amongst the crowd when it came to who you believe was the Reds' key performer against Forest...

After a thrilling comeback, who gets your vote for United's Man of the Match?

It is little surprise that United captain Fernandes, who assisted Casemiro's leveller and fired home the match-winning penalty, topped our poll.

The Portuguese maestro received a whopping 58 per cent of the vote, following his typically talismanic display against Steve Cooper's side.

Not only did Bruno weigh in with a goal and an assist, his diligent running and firm tackling once more set the standard for his team-mates, as we upped our levels following the visitors' early double.

Second in our poll was Casemiro, who consistently regained possession for Ten Hag's team and scored a crucial equaliser at the right moment in the second half, as United capitalised on our pressure to restore parity.

The Brazilian midfielder attracted 12 per cent of the vote, while the only other Red to hit double figures was right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The full-back was chosen by 10 per cent of voters as their Man of the Match, after his pace and timing once more thwarted opposition attacks down our right.

The Reds recover from an awful start to see off the 10-man visitors at Old Trafford.

Not only that, but Wan-Bissaka provided an attacking outlet for United down the right, combining well with Antony to have a handful of successful forward runs that almost led to key chances for Erik's men.

Despite the backing for Casemiro and Wan-Bissaka, few can argue with our Fernandes's influence against Forest and therefore our skipper being named Man of the Match.

Congratulations, Bruno!
