Who was Man of the Match against Liverpool?

Sunday 17 March 2024 18:58

When the full-time whistle went at Old Trafford on Sunday, it was a cauldron of noise, as Manchester United progressed to the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup and eliminated Liverpool at the same time.

A topsy-turvy game was settled in the final minute of extra-time as Amad broke through and found the bottom corner, making it 4-3 to Erik ten Hag's team and booking our place in the last four.

Whenever Jurgen Klopp's team hit United, we struck back, and that character was evident from every single player in a red shirt at the Theatre of Dreams.

We asked our supporters to vote for their star man after the game and, like the match between United and Liverpool, it was a close-run contest.

Amad claimed the offical Emirates award, as well as our prize.

Amad edged the voting with 27 per cent, after clinching the victory in emphatic fashion.

With the sides locked at 3-3 and penalties moments away, the Ivorian pinched the ball on the edge of the box and launched a counter-attack that was ultimately devastating.

Garnacho drove towards the Liverpool box and Amad bust a gut to get up alongside him, finishing clinically after having the ball laid on to his favoured left foot.

Such were our no.16's emotions after netting, he took his shirt off and ended up getting a second booking and being dismissed, but the United supporters won't care.

Garnacho was second in our voting, with 26 per cent, after being a constant thorn in the side of Klopp's team.

Even at the end of 120 minutes on the pitch, Alejandro looked like one of the freshest on the pitch and had the energy reserves to lead the charge and assist our match-winning goal.

McTominay and Rashford combined for our leveller in extra-time, with Scott also opening the scoring in normal time, and received 10 and eight per cent, respectively.

Kobbie Mainoo began the match in the engine room and also attracted eight per cent of our fans' votes, after being his industrious and composed self in the middle.

But, ultimately, it was the man who clinched the win in emotional and dramatic circumstances who won our Man of the Match award - his first of the campaign.

Congratulations, Amad!
