Why Martial missed the Palace match

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial will play no part in our Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Having been absent for a fortnight following our Manchester derby victory on 14 January, Martial played the final 27 minutes of our Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg against Nottingham Forest in midweek, coming off the bench to net the opening goal in M16.

But our no.9 has suffered a further setback, according to Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag discusses Martial, Sabitzer, Sancho and Munich ahead of today's game...

“He had a set back from the game when he returned,” he boss told MUTV prior to kick-off.

“He thought he could build up, but he dropped a little bit back.

“We have to wait, we have to be patient not to force it.”

Martial has found the net six times in 14 appearances for the Reds so far this term and moved into the top 25 in our all-time goalscorers list after his strike against Forest.

Loan signing Wout Weghorst will lead the line against Palace, with Antony, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes playing behind the Dutch forward.

We all wish Tony a speedy recovery.
