Why United v Southampton is not live on TV

Friday 10 March 2023 10:00

Manchester United's next Premier League outing, Sunday's home game with Southampton, will not be shown live in the UK.

Erik ten Hag's side are taking on the Saints in a 14:00 GMT kick-off as we look to respond to last week's heavy defeat to Liverpool in the division, on the back of Thursday's Europa League win over Real Betis.

Although we will be providing the usual comprehensive coverage on our official channels, including the United App, ManUtd.com and MUTV, featuring live radio commentary of all the action, the contest will not be screened live in this country.

Watch two minutes of action from our Europa League first leg with Real Betis at Old Trafford...

This is simply because the fixture was not chosen by Sky Sports or BT Sport as part of their live rights.

It was originally due to be played at the traditional time of 15:00 GMT on Saturday but was forced to be moved by our progress to the Europa League round of 16, with the  first leg against Real Betis taking place on Thursday night.

United won 4-1, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst all on the scoresheet.

The live Premier League game on Sky Sports, kicking off at the same time, is the London derby between Fulham and leaders Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

It is part of a Super Sunday double-header on the channel, with Newcastle United facing Wolves at 16:30 GMT.

Our final domestic game before the international break, the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final with Fulham, is being shown live, on ITV, on Sunday 19 March.
