Marcus Rashford

Why Rashford missed Fulham game

Saturday 04 November 2023 11:30

Marcus Rashford's absence from Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Fulham has been explained.

Our no.10 missed out on the visit to Craven Cottage, as the Reds recovered from consecutive home defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle United by beating the capital club 1-0, thanks to Bruno Fernandes's late winner.

Rashford travelled with the rest of the team but the Mancunian forward was not involved in west London, due to injury.

Marcus took a heavy knock to his leg in training and was unable to finish the last session before the game.

Erik ten Hag provides an update on Marcus Rashford and an insight into his team's mindset ahead of the Fulham game...

The England international underwent a fitness test in the morning, when it was decided he was unable to play.

In his pre-match interview with TNT Sports, Erik ten Hag confirmed: "He was travelling with us but he didn't make it. He was tested this morning but [his leg] wasn't good enough. He's not fit."

When asked if Marcus would have started, in light of recent events, the manager replied: "Yes. We have to close that case. I have said everything about it."

Ten Hag made six changes from the side which exited the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka making his first start for the club since early September after injury.

He came into the backline for Sergio Reguilon, with Diogo Dalot switching to left-back. Victor Lindelof was absent through illness and Jonny Evans replaced him as Harry Maguire's partner in central defence.

Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay featured in a new-look midfield, as Casemiro was sidelined by a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund started up front.
