Will Mount make his debut on Wednesday?

Monday 10 July 2023 13:59

Manchester United fans are waiting to discover when Mason Mount will pull on the shirt for the first time, following the completion of his move from Chelsea.

The England international trained again with his new colleagues at Carrington on Monday, ahead of the first pre-season game for Erik ten Hag's side - Wednesday's friendly with Leeds United in Norway.

The Oslo fixture (16:00 BST kick-off) and each of the other seven close-season matches will be shown live on MUTV.

Mount missed England's Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia at the end of last term, due to injury, but hinted he was raring to go when wrapping up his signing last week.

Whether Erik will pitch his new arrival straight into action, at some point, is open to debate but we should have more of a clue when the travelling squad for Oslo is announced on our official channels, including the United App and ManUtd.com, on Tuesday.

The pre-season campaign offers a fascinating first glimpse of new signings and it will be interesting to see where Mount operates within Ten Hag's system when he does make his debut for the Reds.

If our new no.7 does face the Yorkshiremen, he has previous against the Elland Road outfit. He scored both home and away to Leeds in 2021/22, bagging the opener in a 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge and striking early in a 3-0 away win, during a match in which former Red Daniel James was sent off. James is back with Leeds after a loan spell at Fulham last season and may feature in midweek.

Look out for updates on the squad and team news, plus the XI when it is released on Wednesday afternoon, as we count down to the first of this run of appetising fixtures.
