Weghorst: We have a special group

The Dutch loanee, like much of the squad, is already looking forward to the chance of winning more trophies this season, and believes our squad has the ability to earn more silverware. 

Next up is the Emirates FA Cup tie with West Ham United at Old Trafford, on Wednesday, to follow Sunday's Carabao Cup triumph at Wembley.

“Today was [just] the first one, hopefully; we’ve got three more to go.” he told MUTV. 

“We have to enjoy this one and celebrate it but on the other side, we keep on going, we’re hungry for more. 

“This [winning] mentality, you can feel it in the squad, you can see it on the pitch, the guys who are there always deliver.” 

Whether it is on the pitch or off it, Weghorst feels the togetherness of the squad, adding: “It’s quite special for me also, I’ve never noticed it before.

“We have a special group.”

It is the first trophy the Reds have won since 2017, ending a six-year long trophy drought. 

Our no.27 was captured just after the final whistle taking the occasion in, during what was the first trophy win of his career. 

“[It is] a great feeling,” he continued to club media. “It’s good to win something. For me, it’s the first time I’ve won a trophy and, for the club, it was quite long ago, so it’s a great feeling to bring back some silverware.”

Weghorst, who performed well again for the Reds, added: “[Playing at Wembley] was a special feeling, a special final. 

“There’s only one thing that matters and that’s performing, that’s winning, and that’s what we did. Then, at the end, you can enjoy it and see the atmosphere. 

“It was a special occasion. It was a great one.”
