Our writer's picks for the Men's Goal of the Season award
Steve Bartram, Features Editor: "Goals have been hard to come by at Anfield in recent seasons, with belters rarer still. As such, Lisandro Martinez's opener in January’s thrilling draw on Merseyside was a joy to behold. Sharp, proactive defending from the Argentinian to nab possession, patient approach play from Bruno Fernandes and, finally, a thunderous finish from Licha via the underside of the crossbar. Moments like those are what it’s all about."
Zarah Connolly, MUTV producer/presenter: "I was working at the Carabao Cup tie with Leicester City, and as soon as Casemiro smashed in the opener via the crossbar, I remember thinking ‘wow’ and looking at the Leicester fans, who were all basically shrugging and saying ‘fair enough’, which was a good indicator of how exceptional a goal it was."
Joe Ganley, Senior staff writer: "For me, Bruno Fernandes’s FA Cup effort at Arsenal was a classic counter-attacking goal in United's best traditions, starring a smart pass from Garnacho and a really tricky finish that Bruno made look dizzyingly simple. Extra points for the highly enjoyable away-end 'limbs' visible behind the goal."
Harry Robinson, multimedia journalist: "Football is about moments and a goal’s context matters, so I’ve gone for Kobbie Mainoo’s effort against Lyon. To show that quality – the control, the touch, the perfect finish – in the final minute of extra-time in one of the most dramatic games Old Trafford has ever seen is exceptional. Let me go and watch it again now…"
Adam Marshall, ManUtd.com managing editor: "Just to recognise the significance of the incredible, and I mean incredible, comeback against Lyon, I’ll plump for Kobbie Mainoo’s strike. For the homegrown midfielder to show such composure and quality, with the stakes so high at that moment, was worthy of recognition and the celebrations that followed."
Mikey Partington, ManUtd.com journalist: "He just missed out on my nod for Player of the Season but, for me, Amad should win this one for his last-gasp winner at Manchester City. Everything about that goal was just brilliant."
Now, take your pick from this term’s finest efforts from United Women…
Leah Galton v West Ham | WSL | A thumping long-range strike at the Scoreboard End.
Elisabeth Terland 1st v Tottenham | WSL | Magnificent first Reds goal, volleyed in off the bar.
Maya Le Tissier v Everton | League Cup | The skipper’s rocket of an effort from outside the box.
Ella Toone v West Brom | FA Cup | A classic curler, in off the bar from the edge of the area.

Melvine Malard v Leicester | WSL | Incisive counter-attack, stylishly finished off.
Grace Clinton v Aston Villa | WSL | An outstanding long-range chip from the young midfielder.
Celin Bizet v Manchester City | FA Cup | A sublime curler to set the Reds en route to Wembley.
Melvine Malard v Manchester City | WSL | The goal which secured European qualification.
Our writer's picks for the Women's Goal of the Season award
Steve Bartram, Features Editor: "That audacity I was talking about with Grace Clinton? Take her goal at Villa Park as the outstanding example. Picking up possession just inside the Villa half, she spotted the opposing goalkeeper off her line and executed a magnificent 35-yarder which dipped just underneath the bar and immediately had the home support united in rousing applause. Pure class."
Zarah Connolly, MUTV producer/presenter: "For context, I think Ella Toone’s first effort at City was so special. She’d been struggling after her dad’s passing, she’d been out injured for a couple of months and she’d always said that, as a big Red, she wanted to score against City. For her to do that in such a big game at the Etihad was a huge moment for her and a really important one for the team’s season."
Joe Ganley, Senior staff writer: "The key to United Women's season has been the co-operation between defence and attack. To put it simply: the whole team does a bit of everything. This gorgeous volley away at Tottenham was a cracking example: a perfect, precise cross from defender Jayde Riviere and a Van Basten-like volley from striker Elisabeth Terland, who is not just a great no.9 but also very much the first line of defence."
Harry Robinson, multimedia journalist: "There are more eye-catching goals in our list, and more headline-grabbing goals, too. But there’s something about Melvine Malard’s goal against Leicester that I love. Or some things. Ella Toone’s throughball, Malard’s acceleration beyond her marker, use of her body to protect the ball and then the cheekiest of striker’s play. This is dream no.9 play, with a proper United, brilliantly arrogant finish. Superb."
Adam Marshall, ManUtd.com managing editor: "My vote has to go to Grace Clinton, for her incredible long-ranger against Aston Villa at Villa Park. Such audacity and a great finish."
Mikey Partington, ManUtd.com journalist: "There are a few leading candidates but I keep going back to Elisabeth Terland’s first for the club against Tottenham – a real football-lover’s volley that cannons in off the crossbar."
