Biography
The talented young defender signed her first professional contract with the club in October 2024, on her 18th birthday.
Newell progressed through the youth ranks at West Bromwich Albion and was dual registered with United while representing the Baggies in the third tier, during the 2023/24 campaign. That season, the teenager’s solid displays for our national-title-winning Under-21s also earned her the Women’s Academy Players’ Player of the Year award. The following term, as well as being a member of the first-team squads for the training camps in Malta and Marbella, Lucy went out on loan to Blackburn Rovers, where she was nominated for the second tier's Rising Star award. On the back of a successful spell at Rovers, the defender returned to United for pre-season before heading back to the division to continue her development, joining Birmingham City and then Crystal Palace during the 2025/26 campaign.
