After joining Manchester United from Liverpool in the summer of 2020, Safia Middleton-Patel enjoyed a successful first season with the Under-21 team winning the WSL Academy League and Cup double.
The goalkeeper was named in her first senior matchday squad on 5 February 2022 before signing her first professional contract in January 2023. On signing her professional contract, the Welsh shot-stopper - who made her senior international debut in the following month - said: “I’m over the moon to sign professionally with Manchester United. It’s a surreal moment for me and my family. "I have to say a massive thank you to all the staff - everyone has been amazing with me throughout my journey to get here.” During her time at the club, Middleton-Patel has enjoyed loan spells with Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, Coventry United and Watford. In October 2023, the Wales international opened up about her autism diagnosis, sharing the news with fans on social media before sitting down with the club to talk about being a role model and how her team-mates have been helping her.
