Recovery is key, says Lindelof
TranscriptVictor Lindelof’s focus has already moved to Everton on Wednesday, as the festive schedule intensifies…
Victor, what a game to play in. What was it like? "A lot of things happened during those ninety minutes but it's a fun day for us. We were able to score six goals. Obviously we wanted to keep a clean sheet as well but we won the game and that's the most important thing." Have you ever played against a team like that? No matter what the score was, they were just relentless. Whether it was 4-0 or 6-1, they just played exactly the same way... "Yes, exactly. It was a good team that we played against today. Like you said, no matter the result, they just kept on going with the same intensity. They're a very hard opponent to play against but we managed to score six goals today, so that's always nice." It makes a nice change to go 2-0 or 3-0 up rather than conceding the first goal and having to come back. It makes a big difference, doesn't it? "Yes exactly. Obviously that's how you always want to start games. We knew they were going to come out quick and we wanted to start on the front foot, and I think that's exactly what we did. We scored two early goals and that was perfect for us." And a rare goal from you! What do you remember about that? "I don't score so much but it's always fun to score and help the team so it was a fun day for me as well." 4-1 at half-time - were you thinking it was over? "No, like we talked about before, they play with the same intensity no matter the result, so we knew we had to stay concentrated and keep on playing because they keep on running and keep on playing like there's no tomorrow but we managed to do it in a good way." 6-2 - do you think that tells the story, because it could have been 10-5, it could have been anything? "Yes, I think we could have scored at least a few more goals. Six is also good but I think we could have scored a little bit more." Still early days but looking at the table, after six wins in seven games, confidence must be high after that run? "Obviously, it's always like that when you win games of football. It gives you confidence. We're on a good run now, we've been performing good on the pitch, so hopefully we can just keep on going because we know in this period there's a lot of games. We have to recover well and be ready because some important games are coming up." There are lots of games, every three days, but if we look at the bench today, what a bench it is. I suppose that must make a difference with a game every three days... "Of course and that also shows the depth in the squad. That's very important during this period. Like I said, games are coming up quick and I don't think every player is able to play every minute of every game so that's very important for us to have players who, if they didn't play today, are ready for the next game."
