It's a disappointing night at Old Trafford and, when combined with the defeat to Leicester on Tuesday, a disappointing week, but it's worth a reminder that a win over Fulham next Tuesday - when up to 10,000 Reds will be in attendance at Old Trafford - will be enough to secure second place, and that will obviously be a clear improvement on last season's showing.

“We go in at half-time, disappointed at being 2-1 down. We came out second half and just gave them a goal. We said we’ve got to be better with our passing and we played out from the back, gave the ball away and whichever team you play in the Premier League, they’ve got decent enough players to punish you.”
FT
That's a hard one to take, as our arch-rivals win at Old Trafford for the first time since 2013/14. Goals in each half from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford proved to be in vain as Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino (2) and Mo Salah took full advantage of some defensive lapses. United still have work to do to be confirmed as Premier League runners-up.
FT
Marcus just misses the target this time with a similar shot to the one he scored with. Too late anyway to prevent a disappointing loss.

Neco Williams comes on for Salah in injury time.

In a horrible repeat of the goal he scored against us at Anfield last season, the Egyptian breaks away into a half devoid of outfield United players. He then has the simplest of tasks to tuck the ball beyond an isolated Henderson. Defeat complete.

"It's not imperative for United given our league position but let's have it right: this is a game we don't want to lose!"

Edinson lunges in and is yellow-carded for catching Thiago, who made a real meal of it.

Scott is cautioned by referee Anthony Taylor, for a late challenge on his midfield counterpart Fabinho.

Bruno's annoyed with himself after lifting a set piece over Alisson's goal from a decent position, awarded for handball against Thiago.

Rashford twists inside Phillips but fires his shot into the side netting. We're really chasing the equaliser now.

Curtis Jones and Sadio Mane replace Gigi Wijnaldum and Diogo Jota.

How did that not go in?! Greenwood was denied twice then as Liverpool centre-backs Phillips, on the line, and Williams got in the way of his close-range efforts. Almost 3-3.
